本曲乃出自賣座百老匯音樂劇《悲慘世界》－－由法國作家雨果（Victor-Marie Hugo）的同名作品改編而成。

雨果的另一知名著作則為《巴黎聖母院》（Notre-Dame de Paris），又譯作《鐘樓怪人》。

這首樂曲可謂是徹底反映了人民為了掙脫奴役的枷鎖、為了生命的自主而奮鬥的心情。

希望它能在激昂後帶給你更深刻的反省，反省究竟什麼才是對人類最重要的事物？
